Henry lookin' so cute!

« on: February 01, 2009, 11:47:46 PM »

I have tried to post in the post I put on last night twice. They aren't showing up. I wanted to say thanks for the tips. I bought 2 dozen crickets today and Henry ate half of them. I got rid of the heat rock and found out his light is a UVA light. What is the difference between the 2? I ordered him a new tank from the petshop today it is going to be 4"x24'x18'.  It is almost the same size as my ball python (Sophie)but hers is  4'x12"x18. ( higher for the driftwood thingie) I ordered a stand too so I can "stack" them. I like the idea of tile on the bottom of his cage. (Should I do that for my snake too?) Do I just pile up rocks in there? I saw a pic of a cage on here with a ledge in it. How do I do that too? Not plumber's foam right? I also tried to post some pictures of Henry so y'all could get a better idea of his size but I can't get the file small enough for it to take it. All my pics are in the 300s. I'll try to get pictures developed and see if scanning them in will make them smaller. Once again ... Thanks for the advice! Debi

LOL! No! I got them backwards. It isn't 24 ft wide or 18 feet tall either.

So how big is it?  If you say it in gallons I won't know what you mean.  Undecided

Oh yeah, that's a great big size.  You could put a lot of beardie furniture in there.  And he's a cutie, too!  Kiss

I was wondering because I don't know if I should feed him as a juvenile or an adult?

OH!!  I just noticed your earlier question, sorry... a UVA light is simply a heat-producing light.  Any strength stated on it simply says how hot it'll get, which as mentioned before can be achieved by a cheap 100-watt bulb bought from any ordinary store.  If it appears to produce a lot of heat feel free to use it for the rest of the time it has, but he'll still need that UVB light.  If it doesn't produce much heat you could stick it in one of your lamps for yourself or use it in conjunction with another bulb for heat.  In fact, with a tank that large you might want two heat bulbs... but both on the same side to make sure the other side stays a 'cool' side.  It'll also depend on what outside sources have to do with the temperatures.  Get a thermometer and see what the cool side and the hot side amount to, others on this forum would know better what exact temperatures to aim for.

Somewhere on here you posted a web site you have and I went there after I had typed that. I read  what you had there on the differences too. Thanks. I love the cage you made out of the dresser! I'm going to show it to hubby in the morning. That looks a lot better than a completely glass cage. I bet it's warmer too. Got me rethinking the whole huge glass cage idea. Wondering if it's too late to canel my order from the pet shop? I'm pretty good at making things, I bet I could make one like that and just put the snake cage on top. What did you use on the inside to make the ledge? I want Henry to have a ledge too! Smiley Did you put holes in the top for the heat light?
