Black throats and Savs are all going to be wild caught. Black throats are a huge, powerful lizard. They will need a very large enclosure (around 15'x10'). Thats a room! It will cost a lot of money to build a moisture proof, indestructible, heavily insulated enclosure. And tiring building an enclosure of that size and hauling 15'x10'x2-4' of dirt. Not to mention the expense. It will cost a lot for all the bulbs you will need (banks of them for basking areas) to heat up the whole enclosure, the materials for the enclosure, and the food bill! And it will be a bill. Massive lizards eat massive amounts of food. No dog food or canned food. They need whole prey items.
To be honest, the main reason you should not get a large lizard is your age. You will not be able to bring that animals enclosure in to an apartment or dorm room. Your going to hope that you live with your parents until you can afford a home and in todays world, I wouldn't bank on buying a home.
Ackies are a great choice for a monitor. They get about as long as a beardie, they're captive bred, and a 4'x2'x2' is a good enclosure(minimum). If you move out, you can take them, and the food bill will be low. Plus they have all the personality of a monitor in a small package. They too have a great feeding response. For a larger monitor, which I don't recommend, I'd go with an Argus. They get large, but not as large as black throats, they rarely bite, they're captive bred, they tripod, and they have one of the best feeding responses of any lizard.
heres a young ackie pic.
