I was looking at some other pets and this a hedgehog seems like one of those cool looking pets. Does anyone have one, and are they hard to take care of?

My girlfriend used to keep them but became allergic to something on their spines and gave them away. They really are not that hard to keep and are quite affectionate if not ignored or mistreated. They do not eat huge amounts of food so your feeding bill should not be too large.

Now for the bad stuff, the males have hefty smelling urine. You will have to clean the cage weekly if not more often. They are most active at night so if you are a day person you will not get to see your pet too much. They are just like hamsters and will run a lot in their wheel so its not a bedroom pet. They also need a fairly large space depending on if you get a UK one or a new zealand (I think) one.

Thats really neat... the food bill had me wondering. So what exactly would a daily feeding schedule look like and what about the cage size?

I didn't it was just my weekend Tongue I talked to her apparently the cages they sell for rabbits are good for them but you have to have a wheel and let them out a lot. I really liked him and likes giving him a bath and scrubbing between his quills but as she was so allergic to him we gave him to a friend.

I know people who have hedgies. But I wouldn't recomend them. They are cute and all but are hard to take care of. Chinchillas are similar but easier to take care of. And they need lots of tlc and playtime.
