GO MAGIC!!!!! GO YANKEES!!!!

« on: January 20, 2012, 09:45:57 PM »

I have a gecko I hatched from Thomas and genevieve.... Anyway I take pride in taking good care of my babies and tring to do the right thing.... But this is more than I can deal with.... She hatched in august of 2011 and has done nothing but shed and every shed she has had trouble... She has a wet hide a dry hide a wet heated hide a dry heated hide and she just can't seem to shed without my help... Her toes are eaten away... Her tail is gone after getting it stuck in her rocks .... I know I shouldn't pull her shedding skin off but if I don't it doesn't come off on it's own... I don't know what to do, I feel soooo sorry for her ... I don't know what to do... Advise please! I've even thought of the unthinkable and maybe should put her to sleep. .Huh

Hey Lady !
Alrighty.. they are right.. a nice warm bath will help your little one a good deal..

You mentioned rocks that little one got her tail stuck in ?  Maybe the rocks need to go.
Also, you said her toes are completely gone ?  Did they fall off due to constriction from the old sheds ? Are they totally healed ?

Now all my gecks are on tile.. with paper towel on top of that.. no sand, no particulate substrate.
I live in a pretty humid area, and my house isn't sealed in, so I get enough humidity that none of my gecks have issues with shed.  You might consider a humidifier in the room she's housed in.. that could help her out as well.

If you need me.. just email me.. I don't know if you have my phone number, but I can email that to you.
Hope everything else is going well for you !  I miss seeing you around here !  Darn it !

No don't put her down... I have a totally blind geck, named Helen.. she does quite fine with no eyes..
Sure a geck with no toes needs just a bit more planning in the enclosure area, but beyond that, I see no reason for her to be put down.. I know you've got to be frustrated right now, but just take a deep breath.

You've gone through some stuff with the dragons, now it's with this special little one.  It'll be alright.

*hugs* Hope this all helps out !

A blind gecko? how do you feed her live food if she can't see it? but good luck with the baths!

There isn't a thing wrong with her nose ,she can hear as well.. She probably is the biggest of all the geckos I have.
The point I was making was just because something isn't whole and complete, doesn't mean there is any less quality of life.

Hey Veg.  It's also possible since she's not shedding properly, and therefore not consuming her shed, that her calcium stores are off some.
