Our little girl is about 5 months old and is pretty fat.  My question is:  can Beardies be too fat?  She does love to eat....

At 5 months she should be getting all the live food she wants in 15 minutes twice a day, along with a healthy salad available all day. As long as that's what she's getting, she won't be over weight. They tend to get pretty chubby sometimes, but that's usually just a sign of a healthy and well loved dragon.

Whew, thanks for your input.  That sounds just about exactly what her feeding schedule and type is.  She has just grown so fast I wasn't sure and we're still learning at our house.  We do all love her though, lol

Hi FabMissP,

It is easy that this sweet girl can be fat, if are not careful about the diet. It is very important what are we feeding and how many times are we feeding it.

12 months - 18 months:

You should cut down on live prey by about 12 months of age. Offer the dragon live prey, as much as it eats in 15 minutes, once a day. Offer more salad, pellets and fruit as a treat.

18 months and older

By this point, your dragon is now an adult. It will still grow throughout the rest of its life, but not at the rate it did when it was younger. You should now give your adult dragon greens, pellets and fruit every single day and 6-10 adult crickets and a few worms 4-6 days a week.

Christine, thank you but we're talking about a 5 month old baby, not an adult or subadult. Babies should be offered all the live prey they want in 15 minutes two to three times daily along with a healthy salad all day, every day.
Pellets and other prepared foods are not a good choice for daily feeding and fruit should only be offered in small amounts once or twice a week as a treat.
