My Dragon bit me tonight. She almost took my fingertip off. She's gravid and having a hard time passing her eggs. The eggs are infertile and she just can't seem to pass them. I had her in her lay box and I brought her out to give her a bath and let her drink as she seems to be dehydrated. She drank for seemingly a long period of time and then she went into a panic mode, much like when a human being is drowning. I had her in very shallow water just to let her drink but it went way wrong, almost like she's trying to drown herself. I grabbed her up and she was shaking her head violently and then went limp. I thought she was gone. I was on my knees and I gently puffed a breath of air into her mouth and nose and she woke up, opened up her mouth and that's when I placed my thumb and forefinger into the sides of her mouth to see if anything was obstructing her airway and wham! She chomped down on me and almost bit my finger tip off. I was bleeding profusely. She coughed up a fairly good puddle of water and then threw up everything she had in her stomach which she had eaten two days ago. All I could do is try and comfort her. She blackened up pretty good but eventually calmed done and lightened up. I put her back in her viv to warm her up and she fell asleep. She was breathing really hard but seemingly asleep all the same. I covered her up, turned the lights out and turned on her ceramic heat lamp that I use at night to keep her warm. I'm freaking out, silently. She's almost 3 years old and I'd love to have her around for a long while to come. I talked to my vet, a very reputable herp vet in the area and she said she could take the eggs out but the risk is high. So I'm in-between the decision of that versus letting nature take it's course. Any and all advice is welcome and thanks for reading. If anyone is wondering if they can bite, believe me, they can bite...

I'm confused.  Dragons that are contracting don't typically fall asleep.  Are you certain she's in "lay" mode?

I think that she inhaled water into her lungs. She went into a panic as she couldn't take in air. Then she just went limp in my hands as if she had died or passed out. Eyes closed and totally limp, I mean totally lifeless. I gently blew into her nose and mouth a few times and then that's when she "woke up" so to speak! She wasn't actually sleeping. It was a scare to say the least.

Right now she seems weak. She's not digging like she was this morning but she seems to be raising her tail periodically and straining just slightly. Do the eggs actually move down towards the tail before laying? Just looking at her they seem to be moving down in her belly. I have her in sand. Should I mix some organic potting mix in there for a more earthy dirt feel and smell to maybe try and stimulate her to pass the eggs? Thanks again for responding! I know you care...

it's best to leave her be.  Disturbing her can delay the process she's in and cause more complications.  Sometimes these things take 24 hours.  I would call the vet to make sure they will be open tomorrow in case she has not begun to lay at that time.  But for now.......do not disturb.
