I am buying my first dragon this weekend. I have a few questions before I do though. The tank that I bought for it is a 200 gal...is this too big? Im worried about it being hard to heat....I was also thinking about getting two dragons bc I had such a big tank, but I read on here that that wouldn't be a very good idea? Any other helpful advice would be greatly appreciated....

Hey Mark!  As like you i am a newbie to the forums but ive picked up a few things.  The majority of us here will tell you that we do not promote two beardies living together in the same enclosure due to the fact they like being alone, and are much happier this way.  As to the tank size, there really isnt a maximum size Tank.  That being said youll need to be making sure that you are monitoring the tank with thermometers.  i would get 3 of them.  one for warm side, one for the cool side, and one in between.  With the tank being this large you might want to think about placing a light in the middle that isnt as high power as the warm side, so that it can cause a nice temperature gradient throughout the tank.  Make sure you are providing the right basking temps, our Caresheet was super helpful to me!  It will let you know about tank temperatures.  As i said im new to Dragon keeping but not reptiles.  if any one of our site monitors or experts has something to add to this, they probably can offer more  Grin.  I hope this info helped, post pics when your done!  it sounds like its going to be a nice spacious place!

Welcome Mark!

It's difficult to tell how big a tank is by gallons, 200 sure sounds pretty big.  The main thing here is the floor space, should be a minimum of 24" wide and 16" deep, you also relly don't want it more than 24" tall.  My enclosure is 24"x48"x24".  With a large tank you will have a hard time getting proper UVB from a fluorescent tube light (we only really recommend the Reptisun 10.0).  If they had them in stock I would recommend a reptileuv.com Megaray, but they are having problems with their manufacturer.

Before you go to get your dragon please read our caresheet (Click Here.
