Hi folks, I'm concerned my beardie is on its way out. A week ago, he put his nose and mouth in the water bowl, opened closed it for well over a minute. I bathed him for the next few days and he done the same. He sits in the same part of the cage (a warm spot) but is very alert when disturbed. Then I noticed blood in his poo, took him straight to the vets and had a fecal sample done. It came back clear but he gave me antibiotics to give him .5ml twice daily (as the results took a while to return). He eats every other day (Crix/veg-no calcium blockers) but has not eaten for over a week. 24hrs ago, he put his black beard on and its been on ever since. This morning the vet told me to carry on with the anti biotics and to force feed him daily, mixing in a powder that should increase his appitite, cricket guts and veg.
I know gekos can sit in their water bowl when they are dying and i wondered if any of the above are signs hes on his way out?  If hes dying anyway i dont want to p**s him off by force feeding him food and drugs.
However, maybe the head in the water thing is normal, hes got a black beard coz i keep messing with him, and he was just constipated when i found the blood??? I was told he was 2, 2 years ago, but he could be any age. He lives with his missis and she is fine. I have checked and tripple checked heating and lighting. There is nothing that could be letting him see his reflection.

Do what your vet says.  Do you bathe your dragon?  You might want to take the water bowl out.

As quickly as possible can you please answer the following questions ASAP (copy and paste them into your reply to make things easier).

This will help us determine any possible root causes for your dragon's condition:

List of Questions

1. How old is your dragon?
2. How large is your enclosure (tanks size in gallons or measurement Length x Depth x Height)?
3. What exact brand of UVB source do you have, if any?  Is it a tube, coil, or Mercury Vapor?
4. How old is the UVB bulb?
5. How far is the UVB source from the basking spot?
6. How hot is the basking spot in ºF or ºC?
7. What temperature is the cool side?
8. How exactly is this temperature measured (sticker thermometer, digital thermometer with a probe, temp gun, other)?
9. If using a probe, it is placed flush against the basking spot?
10. What live feeders does your dragon get?  How many are offered?  How often are they offered per day / week?
11. What Calcium and/or Vitamin supplements do you use (brand name and product name please)?
12. How often do you dust with calcium or vitamin powder?
13. What exact greens, fruits, or veggies do you feed your dragon?  Does he eat them at all?
14. Hydration.  Do you mist your dragon, have a water bowl, or soak your dragon in a bath?
15. If you soak your dragon in a bath, how long do you soak for, how often, and what temperature water?
16. What type of substrate do you use (shelf liner, sand, walnut, tiles, newspaper, etc)?
