We adopted a baby beardie from petsmart about a month ago.  He has been housed alone, but today we stumbled upon someone that had a beardie that's about a year old and needed a new home... so, we took him in.  (His terrarium was a nasty MESS at the place we got him.)

Anyways, we only have a 10 gallon tank at home since we only had the one baby beardie... we put the new one in the tank with the baby, and after a few hours... the baby beardie (who has been terrified the whole time) jumped off a basking rock... it looked like he may have scared the older beardie and the older one was trying to attack/eat/whatever the baby beardie.  Now we have them in the same enclosure with a piece of cardboard separating them at the moment.

Does anyone know if they'll ever get along?  Is this just because it's a new environment?  Should we permanently separate them?

Before I get grilled... I am well aware that the 10 gallon tank is too small for the newer guy... but he needed to be saved, and we won't have the money for a new tank for a few days.

Bearded dragons are not social creatures. They need to have separate housing. The larger (older) dragon will eat your baby dragon given the chance. Both dragons will be much happier, healthier, and safer living separately. While it is great that you helped out the other dragon, keep in mind that each dragon should really live in a 40 breeder tank (minimum).

Here's a link to the care sheet from this forum. It is really helpful and full of lots of good information.

Check on Craigslist for your area.  There's usually lots of fish tanks for sale.  In addition you can use a rubbermaid / Steralite bin as a temporary home in the mean time.

A 31 gallon Rubbermaid Rouchneck bin costs under $17.  Steralite is probably around $11.  Leave the lid off and attach a clamp dome (sold at Walmart in the hardware section for about $5.  And use a 100W bulb on one side.  Stack up bricks on one side for a basking area under the light and you should be good with that setup for several weeks if need be.

Bricks stacked as so should be stable:

You may need to stack them higher.  Even a Cinder block would work with a couple of bricks to make stairs to it (if you want to dial in the temperature  (make sure he can't jump out!).

Your rescue dragon probably needs a good bath and a meal.  The rubbermaid bin is opaque and will allow him to adjust well.  Most importantly your dragon need proper basking temperatuers (a nice hot 110ºF spot or so) and some daily UVB.  If you don't have a good MVB or a top notch linear tube UVB source you'll need to take him outside daily for about 20 minutes to soak in some sunlight.  Do not leave your dragon unattended as birds may attempt to attack.
