Hello all. Just thought I would beat this dead horse one more time...I recently returned from a trip to Florida with Girlfriend. Although she travels everywhere with me (she has ten States under her belt) I loathe the idea of packing all of her stuff. This last trip, space was particularly tight so we left the Reptisun 10.0 tube and her basking light at home and took the Exo Terra Professional Series Solar Glo Mercury Vapor that we bought at the reptile show last year when I got her.  I was a novice then but felt that the mercury bulb was overkill, and when I found this forum that suspicion was confirmed and we switched to her current setup.  Here's my observation, after ten days under the mercury vapor, I cannot believe the coloration difference. Her oranges have popped out beautifully, it is quite a dramatic change and the bulb is the only thing I can attribute it to. So here is my query, I don't want to use this bulb, I seem to recall reading there were problems with it burning eyes (or some such nightmare).  Can I safely use the Zoo Med Powersun UV mercury or is there a better option?  Do I use this in combination with the 36" reptisun 10.0 tube currently in her viv? Should I forget the mercury and keep things as they are? Thanks for any advice!

Not all dragons are affected by the current MVB's and their problems. I have a girl doing amazingly well under a powersun right now, but one of my boys did poorly under the same bulb. I would go ahead and use the MVB without the reptisun - BUT keep the reptisun handy and keep a close eye on your girl. If she shows any signs of anything being off, or if she starts keeping her eyes closed more than normal, get the MVB out of her life.
