My dragon decided to jump a number off feet down today (6 or so). Everything looks good but this is my first bearded dragon (first reptile really) and I don't know if there's something I don't know to watch for. After his fall, he was running around charging me and he was having no locomotive problems. He was very dark, almost black, and that worried me in case it was internal bleeding (i.e., severe bruising) but I put him back in his tank and after relaxing a bit, he's completely back to normal size and color. We brought him out again briefly a little later to make sure he was still moving ok (since I assume it's possible for them just to be so worked up from the fall that the push through an injury) and he's still just as lively as usually. We also fed him a few worms to make sure he a) wanted to eat and b) could eat.

I can't point to anything to suggest that anything is wrong and I'm hopeful that we got lucky and the only thing that came from the fall was a pretty ticked dragon, but I wanted to ask people with experience. It doesn't help that we're leaving on a trip tomorrow morning. I let the person taking care of him know that it happened and to let us know if he's acting wierd or not eating and I could arrange to have someone take him to the vet, but I don't know if there are obscure signs to look for.

Thanks

internal injury would resound on a reptile body as it does on a human one.  Bruise like.  His pain thresh hold is good, yet if he had broken a bone, for several days he would be unwilling to move about much, definately would run or chase prey items.

usually damaging falls can result from  proportionate heights onto hard surfaces or hitting something harder while falling.  If the height was not too awfully concerning, and the impact was say on the carpet, he should be fine.

You're doing the right thing in your observation.  Note if he refuses to eat, favors one limb over the other, has trouble deficating, or becomes aggressive for no other reason.  These would be indicators that there may be something up.

It was onto carpet luckily. I'm glad to say that 3 days in and he's still behaving fine and eating fine Smiley

mine has had a fall before too, not that high but he does dumb things sometimes! lol  The reason he went all dark was because he was mad, or upset/confused.  My dragon gets a black beard when he is in the bath sometimes or gets mad.  And then when I pick him up he goes back to normal color.  I guess cause I "saved" him!  Cheesy

Is he young? Young dragons of small size are less likely to be injured from a fall than bulkier adults. The trade off is that they tend to be jumpier at a young age... Sounds like ours is probably alright though, at least.
