My 3 1/2 month old bearded dragon is having a problem and I do not know what it is. His chin or area under his mouth puffs up then deflates and then he opens his mouth for a bit as if he's having trouble breathing.  Can anyone help or suggest anything.
Thanks LinMarie

it sounds like he might have a Upper respiratory infection...but not to panic yet!

Have you soaked him recently and where does the water come up to on him when of so?
has he been in a damp environment?
what are his basking temps?

im sure your guy will be fine! both of mine have had URIs and have come out on the other end just fine, if you can afford it , i suggest you take him to a vet. Try keeping his environment dry and if you soak him dont let the water get in his mouth ( unless he starts drinking) their breathing tube us under their tongue, but if they have the infection with out being treated they could suffocate.

i dont mean to alarm you, but i want to give you a little heads up.

im sure more people will post with great advice!

Hi LinMarie

Welcome to the forum.

As anther option: Is it possible that he/she is going through a facial shed? My guys does exactly what you are describing during the time he is trying to shed his facial skin. He also puffs up, Deflates and sort of licks his lips (if he had them anyway) when he relaxing and just falling asleep.

Hope this helps
