This is my first post, in this forum.

I have two adult female BD's (3 yrs old), and just recently added an adult male BD, also 3 yrs old (on March 16th, 2011).
The two females had already begun laying eggs this season (i.e. infertile), before we got our male.
We have not "witnessed" any mating, between the male and either of the two females, since we got him.
[Note:  The male stays with the 2 females, full time, in a 55 gallon tank]

One of the females laid a small clutch of eggs, last night.  I realize, that this clutch of eggs is probably infertile (or are they?)

My question is, if our new male, does "mate" with one or both of our females, when would we expect to see clutches of fertile eggs?

How often do females lay clutches of eggs, and how long is the "mating season"?

Since we just introduced the male to the two females (about 2 weeks ago), does that mean they may not lay any "fertile" eggs, this mating season?

Thank you for your time, consideration, and cooperation, I truly appreciate it.

hmmmmmmmmm.  not a good process.  It's advisable that the females end their cycle of infertiles and rebuild their stores of fat and calcium prior to breeding.  Infertiles are harder on the body than the actual fertile eggs.
If mating takes place, a fertile clutch could appear within a few weeks, although it is uncommon.  And not advisable for the hatchling inside.

a Female bred correctly, not over bred, and not off cycling infertiles, should lay approximately 3 clutches of eggs within the cycle.  Her body needs to rest and regain what's she's lost to do so at that time.

I recommend you seperate the male from the females and let their hormone levels come back to normal.
