so it seems like these last.....2-3 months hercy has been digging, i though she was just being a pain, but shes diggin and shes doing it right...i finally got a lay box up for her, its nice organic moist soil all nice and toasty, just the way it should be...however she has never actually mated, shes been with my boy...but hes like...reallllly little like shamefully small for his age, and he just cant reach , oh he wants to...but he cant. still...she is digging, those nastly marks on her side, that i thought were from a hide box, not so they were from her back feet nails grabbing her scales and pulling...so now she has been digging and she loves it, shes chubby, real chubby, but not preggo chubby ...so i dont know whats going to come out of this
ideas? hysterical pregnancy?

nature reaking havoc is my guess. What's deeply embedded in their nature never disappears. Is she building up for infertiles?

Sometimes you can't really feel infertile eggs. Just let her keep digging to her hearts content. If she has infertiles she'll lay them when she's satisfied with the hole she's dug.

he just cant reach , oh he wants to...but he cant. still...she is digging The exposure and stimulation of hormones could easily result in an infertile clutch. Infertile meaning eggs were made, but never fertilized by a male. As PF suggested is your best action.

I might stop trying to feel for eggs. They do break, and can inside her if they get too much pressure. Without knowing for sure, you're better off safe than sorry.
Females who generally dig to the center of the earth, have an intent plan. It's best not to disturb her unless she goes about this for days on end. If you get concerned that she is dehydrating or looks to have that appearance, if you notice her straining or acting oddly lethargic, a soak is definately in the menu.
The vet will most likely want an xray to validate eggs, so you should plan on a more extensive bill. I like the "no surprise" approach.
Her infliction on her scales may be due to the restricted space at this time. She has only so big of a laybox within her enclosure right? It may be more accomodating for her to have a full tub, no glass bottom, the entirity is hers to dig in.

One of my girls would dig and dig until she'd wear her nails off on the glass. I got her a large rubbermade bin - it was about 2 feet deep - and filled it almost all the way to the top with soil. I put a make-shift screen lid on it for her light and to keep her in it, and let her go at it. Even with that much space to dig she still went all the way to the bottom before finally deciding to lay her eggs. It might be worth a try for Herc.
