My dragon Penny is just over 2 years old. She does the most nerve-racking thing at feeding time. As soon as I put her food dish with greens in her cage she attacks it. She will then eat until she literally cannot fit anymore in her mouth. I cut her food up so that it's smaller than the space between her eyes. She will then sit around for hours with an extended throat and greens still in her mouth. She will do the same with roaches if I let her, but I've found that I have to feed each roach to her individually to stop this. She has done this since she was a baby. Tonight she seemed to be in distress and having difficulty breathing. And this was after she fed on greens this morning. I placed her in a bath and she is doing much better now. She is in her cage standing up against the wall with greens still filling her throat and part way into her mouth. Her basking spot was temped at 110*F earlier and she has a reptisun 10.0 tube. She gets baths 3 times a week and is fed greens/fruits everyday. She gets roaches 4 times a week. Any ideas why she does this? How can I prevent her from killing herself by choking to death???

I have no idea why she would do that... All I can think of is feeding small amounts of food at a time. How long does it take her to actually swallow what she eats?

Sorry, I haven't been on here for a long time and just now saw a reply. I have been giving her smaller portions at each meal and just feeding her more frequently. Since I've been feeding her two small meals of greens/fruits a day, she hasn't been able to stuff herself like she used to.

When I feed her roaches, I have to feed her one at a time. Otherwise, she will keep grabbing the next roach without swallowing any previous ones. Again, she has done this since I got her as a teeny baby. She will be 3 years old in September. She's a weird dragon, I guess.
