Just over a month ago, we were given a wonderful Great Pyrenees female named Lucy!  She is a dream come true, and gets along splendidly with my Chocolate Lab, Roxy!  I was planning on getting her spayed next month.

Imagine my surprise when I noticed she was gaining weight fast, so I took her to the vet yesterday and found out she's pregnant!  She is due any day now (she's producing milk already) and an x-ray revealed eight puppies!

Wow, NOT what we bargained for at all when I took in this dog!  But my kids are excited, nonetheless!  I'm just nervous! LOL!

Any tips on puppy births, I'd LOVE to hear 'em!  I hope she has them SOON (like today!) because I have a meeting Thursday morning that I can't miss and will need to be away for about 3 hours!  I'll be so nervous leaving her then!  Otherwise she needs to wait to have them until Thursday night! LOL! With that said, she'll probably have them Thursday morning!!!  Tongue

Congrats! If all goes well, you shouldn't have to do anything, especially with giant breeds, births usually go fine.  Cheesy

Lucy had her eight puppies yesterday late afternoon!!!!  Things went pretty good but I did have to lend a hand here and there!  Six of the puppies look GREAT!  There is one runt I"ll have to keep a close eye on, and one of the puppies has deformed back legs that I'll have to get a vet opinion on.

The first pic is seven of the eight; on the middle top of the pile (with his head facing to the left) is the pup with the deformed legs - you can see how curved his back leg is in that picture...

I believe they are pure Great Pyrenees but time will tell!

I got NO sleep last night!  Lucy doesn't mind stepping on or laying on the pups, and if they're crying, she doesn't bring them to her, so I had to babysit all night.  I don't know when I'm going to sleep in the next week!!!  Also it seems like her nipples have stopped milking, so hopefully they start again soon.  I'm going to have someone pick up some puppy milk and bottles for me today, just in case...

OH my gosh, yes! I am worrying over everything!  I haven't slept in two nights because I've had to keep an eye on them!  Thank goodness my big kids can "puppy sit" during the day so at least I can nap!  I am looking forward to this first week being over already, actually! Tongue
