My female should be laying soon, and I have set up a lay box for her with vermiculite and perlite 7" deep.  How deep can I expect her to lay her eggs, and is there any way I can tell where she put them?

she'll most likely dig to the bottom of the bin.  It's not a super fast process, so you should see her in her spot at some time, but in case you miss it, just begin gently raking the dirt back from the corners outward.

My beardie likes the corners, and bottom of her lay box. The 1st time she laid I started a hole for her in the middle and she dug all the way to the corner! The 1st time I used a 20 gallon tank so I could see the eggs when I lifted up the tank. Now I use a 20 gallon plastic container filled about 5" with a mixture of tropical soil and excavator sand. It's a semi-clear plastic, so I can always find the eggs!
