Many of us have teens. Those who have teen boys who are total dare devils will relate. My 14 year old woke me up nice and early this morning so he could help a friend with their horses. I gave him a ride over and came home. The boys took their bikes and started down the road to the barn. I got a call about 30 minutes later to come and get Jacob because he'd wiped out on the bike and needed to go to the doctor. I got there to find blood running down his leg, his hand laid wide open, and my boy in so much pain that he could barely walk to the car. The chain had came off of his bike and locked up the back wheel and he went over the handlebars!
He's got a nice chunk out of his knee - took all the layers of skin and a big piece of the meat. The palm of his hand is in slightly better condition. The hospital got a large amount of asphalt and gravel out of both wounds, cleaned them up, bandaged him and sent us home.
I'll give you one guess what his priority was when we got out of the ER ... "is my bike going to be ok?"

I swear, he's already giving me grey hair. Now he's trying to give me a heart attack!

Jacob's the youngest of 4 boys. I swear he's the worst at getting hurt though! Thankfully my daughter is much more calm and not a daredevil at all. I don't know if I could handle another kid doing everything Jacob does!

I don't know about that Gina. I think I could handle not being on a first name basis with the ER staff! Jacob is by far my most difficult kid - he has serious sleep problems and when he can't sleep he's a clutz and grumpy. He's also a daredevil that will do anything that looks fun. Some days I wish I could just give him a sleeping pill so I don't have to worry about him!

My son turned 14 last friday.  <sigh> I know your pain lol.  I am a RN as well, and I see a lot working in the ER in our local hospital.  I do believe my child had at least one visit per month till the age of 6 in the local ER.  There was stitches, burns, broken arms needing surgery.  Finally around age 7 we seemed ER free!  Then when he was 11, was in a freak accident (pitching softball and took direct hit to face) and ended up in a PICU for a week for facial fractures and bleeding in his brain, even got his own helicopter ride for that one.  Boys just seem to take more risks/have less fear at this age.  It's enough to drive a mother crazy with worry.  And if thats not enough, you know what he wanted for his birthday?  Yup..a skateboard specific for tricks.  They may as well just dedicate a room in the ER to us lol.
