Just a question to see if anyone has done this. I was making some plans for my enclosure and i want to make a 2nd level for it. Most people i have seen construct these, it looks like were done with all grout and styrofoam. i was thinking it would be easier for me to just screw it and dowel the 2nd level where i want it out of malemine wood? does this make sense to people?
also i am thinking of making a secondary basking spot on the bottom level and thinking of mounting another uv light fixture on the bottom of the 2nd level? anyone think there would be anything wrong with doing that? or has done so and any experiences that might help me out?

I think that would be pretty neat, the only thing you need to worry about is the heat index. You will need to plan for plenty of venting if that is the case. Janie.

See I am building pretty much the crossfire but with that 2nd level difference. Instead of the circular vents I am going to use longer rectangular vents. Do u think that would be enough venting for the tank?

It can, however, I would recommend hooking in a small fan, venting out, that way you can have blowing out the vents can bring in cooler air. You may even wish to have two fans, one across from the other, 1 inwards, the other out. Janie.

If I had a fan blowing in would it not cool down the basking area a little too much? I will obviously be checking the temps when I make it but just getting some input first before building

I don't really know, however this is something I had seen someone else had done once, with two basking spots. Janie.

no, it will move the air around so its not so hot and stagnant air. or you could position the vents upward facing, and put in a room with a ceiling fan to blow the air down the vents...

I live in a basement so unfortunatly i dont have a room with a ceiling fan or i would use that idea. But do you think just using one fan that comes from outside directed as the tank vent on the side would work? which would create that cross wind?

the other option i was just thinking about was that i could still mount the extra UVB light to the bottom of the 2nd level but if i mount the heat light far enough to the front of the enclosure I think i might even be able to get a big enough light area to heat top and bottom on one side of the tank, elimanating the need for a fan so so on.

What you really have to figure out is sq feet x bulb or wattage = heat Then figure out how much you have to vent or blow out after you get a constent temp
