I have used driftwood from the river which I soak in boiling water with a bit of bleach before I bake for a few hours at a low temp.

You just have to be careful of what kind of wood it is. Soft woods like pine and cedar emit toxic fumes when heated. Hard woods like oak or walnut are fine.

I WAS TOLD THAT BRANCHES FROM A FRUIT TREE WILL BE FINE DUE TO THE ACIDS IN THE BARK STOP
THE BUGS AND UNWANTED MUNGUS IN BEDDING IN IT
