So my beardie is laying infertile eggs. She has laid 4 within the last week. I thought they were supposed to lay more at one time...?
Anyways, I gave her a lay box 2 days ago. Its just a kitty litter tray filled with moist play sand. But she stil scratches in her substrate, and I found an egg by her food bowl this morning.
The lay ox is about 4 inches deep, but her substrate is only about an inch deep. She is scratching in the substrate as we speak.
How can I get her to scratch in her lay box? I put the egg I found this morning in there for her.

I dont want her to stress out and become egg bound. This is th first time she laid eggs, I didnt even think she would.

Help!!!

Here is the information from the Breeding 101 thread:

Lay Box: This should be a separate enclosure from her regular tank. A large Rubbermaid tub works well.(about $10.00 at walmart)
Cut a hole in about 1/2 of the lid for a clamp light to fit through.
Dump a 50lb bag of dirt in(no chemicals) moisten the dirt but not muddy.
Pile the dirt on the opposite end of the light about 12-18 inches deep. Put the lid on, point the light at the mound and add your girl.
Laying can take anywhere from a few minutes to several days. She should dig a hole, back into it, deposit her eggs and burry the hole. Leave her in there during the whole process. She does not need to eat or drink at this time. She doesn’t need any special lighting or her cage.
If she is in there for several days you may want to take her out long enough to give her a bath, at the same time check the dirt and make sure it’s still moist.
After she lays do not disturb her until she is done burying the eggs. At this point take her out and put her in a bath while you carefully excavate the eggs.

I would suggest you read the whole thread and if you have anymore questions just ask and we'll be more than happy to answer.  Smiley

She doesnt need the uvb light for this Huh

The lay box doesn't have to be separate from the tank but most people make a separate laybox so the female has more room to lay and make burrows. 1 inch substrate may not be enough for her to dig and lay in. You can try adding more. You don't have to give UVB during the time in the laybox but you can since it should only take a day to a week at most.

The organic dirt is what I used and I got it at Wal-Mart
