Can anyone advise why our mild natured beardie, has suddenly had a personaility transplant?
He is puffing up, keeping his mouth open very widely and the slightest movement seems to be making him angry.

We have tried to stroke him and this seems to calm him a little but the slightest movement makes him puff up again.

He is a well handled beardie, so this is very unlike him.

Sounds as if he was frightened about something.. I would try giving him some time, and I wouldn't back down from the aggressive actions.

Will try, thanks for the advice, just really shocked me and I am hesitant to put my hand in as I think he is going to bite me.

Have you changed anything in his tank? Or even moved the tank to a different spot?
It could be something new that he's just seen now and is setting him off.
