we got back about an hour ago from zoes first treatment. ummmmm, do these meds work this quick? when i first put her in her viv i added another little light just to warm things up a bit, she was really cold and i thought it might help with her digesting the medicine. she sat under those lights for about a half hour (mouth open almost looking like she was going to puke) and then started running around in her viv. she still had stress marks going but my goodness she was running all around like a maniac. and THEN she ate some veggies she hasn't touched her veggies in over 2 weeks, but now she finally ate some. it wasn't much, but was still more than what she has been eating. right now she's standing up with her belly against the glass, but anytime i walk past she starts scurrying all around the place like she's going crazy. her stress marks are gone, but im afraid to walk past cuz i don't want to be upsetting her. lol i have not seen her move around this much or this fast in a long time. i don't think so, but could the meds be working this fast? it's been about 2 hours since they adminstered it.

I'm not sure about the meds, but I don't think they work that fast. You may just have one that prefers a hotter basking temp. I have one adult that does best with a basking temp of 122* f. If it's cooler she gets lazy, but at that temp she's active and eats like a pig! Just be sure to keep her extra hydrated as the warmer temps can dry them out pretty quick.

ohhh boy. umm, could the meds be throwing her off in other ways tho? she finally did settle down and then i noticed she was pretty dark in color. she was just laying there for the longest time in the middle of her viv, so she wasn't on the cool side and wasn't on the hot side. i put my hand on her back to see if she was cold and she actually felt pretty warm to me. she's been doing that open mouth breathing a lot today. ugh!!! im just soooo scared cuz alot of what im observing is things i saw happen with stripe.

Is her mouth open when she's basking or at other times too? It's possible she's simply not feeling well, but it never hurts to keep an extra close eye on them to make sure that's all it is. Do you still have some acidopholiz? Panacur really doesn't mess with their system much, but it might help her to feel a little better any way. It can't hurt, and it might help.

at other times too. she actually had it open for a couple hours straight tonight, while she was in the middle of her viv. yes, i still do have the acidopholiz. how would i give that to her? she doesn't really eat her veggies, so i can't throw a little on there, and she doesn't work so good with me and syringe feeding. she does eat her crix yet, so should i dust them with it?
it might just be that she's not feeling good. i took her out just before and had her on my chest and she crawled up to my neck and snuggled, she's never done that before. usually she just sits where ever on ya and looks around. i don't know. im really becoming obsessive with her or something lol

You could dust a few of her crickets with it. At least it would be in her tummy that way. Having her mouth open when she's not basking is worrisome. Did the vet check her for a respiratory infection? That's a common symptom for an RI.

Lets see if we can't help you find a visual. (I know.......I'm a bit weird)
Imagine an upright pipe with a seal at the bottom, water in the pipe and a solid yet permeable mass pushing downward against the water. The pipe is the digestive tract, the solid yet permeable mass is panacur.
As panacur enters the system, it works it's way down the digestive system tract (the same tract that parasites travel when ingested). As it travels it leaves residuals. Although there are not many, if any parasites this med can kill in the upper digestive tract, there are plenty that can live in the lower tract. As it reaches that lower chamber area, the upper digestive feels better. (parasites create a "tummy ache") And the pain or discomfort subsides.
Depending on how high the count of the parasites were, it may make her a bit "ill" as the "bodies" of these organisms pass from the system, but she should be fine in a day or so. Keep in mind that all medications increase the possibility of hydration problems, and safeguard against it. And that acidophilus doesn't need heat to work.

no, the vet did not check her for anything that im aware of. i do believe she just gave her the treatment.
she's not wheezing or anything like that. i had her in the tub today for a while and she pooped. she pooped yesterday too, which is strange. for a long time now she's only been pooping about 2 times a week. so with this happening, is it possible that she's mouth gaping because she's uncomfortable from the the whole treatment process? i mean she hasn't eaten anymore than normal, she didn't even touch her veggies today, but yet she's obviously pooping more. i know the vet had told me that when stripe was doing it, that he was probably doing it because his whole system was "off" and shutting down from the mbd. is it possibly from her system being "off" because of the parasites/treatment?
ohh i don't know. i think im going to just give it the weekend and if she keeps doing it on monday yet i'll give the vet a call.
and ladyknite, you're not weird, they way you explained it helped me totally get it. you do have a very good way of explaining things.

it usually helps to know the way things work, not just THAT they work. Easier to know if something is wrong in that equasion.
What you're describing sounds perfectly normal. I think you're just worried because of what happened before. Different dragon, different circumstance......different outcome. She'll be fine.
