Steve... that picture of the water snake... it looks as if there is a wound or dark reddish area on the bottom right side of the "s".
Am I seeing that clearly ?

it does look like it but it's only a piece of leaf litter i actually did a double take myself as i was releasing the animal.

Okay.. Just wanted to make sure I saw what I thought I was seeing !  Glad it wasn't a wound though...
