Aww so cute! It's always sad when any animal goes feral, but it's sickening when it's a young puppy or kitten. Someone probably dumped the mother because she was pregnant, instead of being intelligent enough to have her spayed.

heard mommy but didn't see her. I doubt anything could have been done with mommy other than euthanizing her. I expect she would have been unsocialized and possibly had heartworm and any other number of medical problems that affect feral dogs. The only thing that made me take these is i felt their age was young enough to grow up as normal socialized companion animals.

nope although i was severly tempted to take the light beige and white home they are in the care of a friend who was on the trip with me, we stopped off to pick up some puppy milk substitute on the way home. I trust you guys not to tell any other field herpers that i didn't kill them lol, that seems to be the accepted protocol for that kind of situation with a lot of herpers, and in some cases i understand the rationale and the negative effects feral domestics have but that's just not how I am wired. I may take one once it is weaned from the milk substitute i am away too many hours of the day to be playing momma dog, either way i'd say we were definately in the right place at the right time for those puppies.

Nothing wrong with that.  I started out with affectionate behaviors toward warm blooded critters...
It's only now that I've grown up... I see the fascination with certain reptilian species Wink
