Hi guys! Glad to be back, and Im so happy to see this place taking off again so quickly. Sux that so much info was lost, but these things happen.
Im in a bit of a panic. Stubby is emerging from his brumation, but he still hasnt been eating. Almost nothing for a few days. We gave it a bit, figured maybe he was just slow in waking up, but when I had him out today, I noticed his lip is looking nasty. It looks like a yellowish crust on his lip, I havent been able to see the inside of his mouth. It looks pretty dry on the outside, but when he opens a bit, it looks quite gummy. The only thing I can compare it to is a nasty cold sore. Is it mouth rot?? Im trying to get my vet on the phone, I hope he even treats beardies. Antibiotics should clear this right up? He just ate a few greens, but how did this happen so fast? how fast does this spread? I noticed a couple of weeks ago, there was a bit of a crust on his lip, and I watched it carefully, but he kept rubbing his face, and got it off. I thought maybe a shed was starting. Poor guy, it looks painful.
Thanks.

well, my vet doesnt do reptiles, but I managed to find one who does. However I cant get an appointment until Friday. Is this thing serious enough to warrant an emergency visit or can Stubby wait until then? Im not sure if the emergency place does reptiles or not. they seem to be few and far between around here. I did some reading on the net, and it looks more and more like mouth rot. He seems ok, besides the mouth, and ate some greens.

Have you tried giving him baths or getting him to drink?

Everything in reptiles happens slowly. They are slow to get sick and slow to heal so you will probably be ok to wait till Friday but no way to know for sure without seeing it.

Thanks for the replies. Yes, we have given him a bath - he gets one every 3 days. We have an appointment today, and Stubby was kind enough to give us a sample to bring. Its great timing as he only toilets about every 10 days. HIs scab fell off, but its still looking a little raw around his mouth area. Better to be safe than sorry right? I say that now - I may not feel that way when we come home with a $200 bill and a perfectly healthy beardie.

went to the vet last night - he was really knowledgeable about beardies. He seems to think Stubby has a fungal infection on his mouth, and gave us some cream - seems to think we caught it very early. The cream is Hibitane Ointment 1% applied 2x a day for 7 days. His weight was 350g and is very healthy. Great bones, no issues except the lip. He did say he was a little thin. Any ideas to fatten him up? He isnt eating great these days, crickets and some greens. He does love his silkies, maybe we can just give him extras? Is there a good feeder thats high in fat - just to bulk him up a little?
Thanks.

Add some wax worms and super worms to his diet. On a treat basis. He should start picking up weight.

Pinkies, a lot of people on here will disagree but they are high in protein and high in fat and my bd and previous ones have never had issues eating and digesting them. I feed mine 2 a week.

when trying to fatten up a dragon you dont want things that are high in fat...things that are high in protein are better and its best to just keep them on a healthy balanced diet and offer treats occasionally and they should put on the weight and as for the above poster...its you choice on what you feed but personally i wouldnt feed pinkies

Well maybe its Beardy to Beardy but mine loves them.
Not to many risks actually, a pinkies bones are softer then a superworm shell and they eat small rodents in the wild.
