Dubias

I've been growing my Dubia colony for a few months and I'm really loving them over crickets. The dragons really love them! They are so much easier and cleaner. I've been mixing the ground dog food with fish food. They also love dehydrated strawberries and bananas. I buy these in the babyfood isle by gerber. I use water crystals and oranges. I've found they like the little mandarine oranges better. They like carrots too. I went out of town and my pet sitter feed my girls way too many roaches so I almost lost my colony but they are coming back, sadly though I have tuns of babies and very few adults so I've had to supplement with crickets again. I would highly suggest that everyone use the roaches instead of crickets. They are so much easier and cheaper in the long run!

What would be the appropriate size tank (I have a 10 gallon and a 20 long) to breed a colony of dubias for a single beardie?

a rubber maid bin would be best.. roaches like dark areas... glass is hard to keep dark.
And yes.. roaches are the bomb !

Well I hope to find that out soon!
Rubbermaid it is then. Have one of those too. Are we talking the big honkin bin or the midsize 15-20 gallonish size? I'm trying to learn specifically how much space they need.

for one dragon, adultish or old juvie, that size is fine.. just pack in 5-6 egg crates from your local breakfast diner, and you'll have the hidey places roaches like.
If you need more info.. just pm me.. I've got 4-6 colonies working or in use..

If you go on youtube and type in dubia roaches a bunch of videos will come up. Theres a few good ones that show you how to make your cage for them. That should help!

I made mine like the guy does on the youtube video called, UPDATED: How I keep my roach colony.
He's a funny character. Entertaining to watch.
