My bearded dragon has been closing his right eye a lot ever since last Saturday. Today he won't open it unless I make a noise to get his attention.  This occurs even when outside the enclosure.

Maybe this is only concidence.  I installed a new T-Rex MV last Thursday.  I thought T-Rex UV was one of the best. I bought one after using Repti-sun 10.0 and a cheaper mercury vapor bulb for about a year.  He never behaved this way with the cheap MV. Maybe this is only concidence.

I bathed him this morning and tried to drip water into his eye to flush anything out. He simply acts as though it hurts to keep it open.  Any ideas? Visine? Swap the bulb out?

I'm not sure if you are aware but Trex Active UV is having a similar issue that the mega rays did in terms of the glass letting TOO much UV through which can harm your reptile's eyes. It is best if you shut the light off and contact Trex about the issue

Herc - definitely is the bulb. We've been recommending against those for quite a while. Every brand of them has had eye problems associated with them.

These aren't the curly bulbs. I didn't know T-Rex was having a similar problem!  Angry   Can't we trust anyone?

Actually, it looks like his right eye definately has something in it. There is sand on part of his enclosure. It could be a number of things including some shed. He opens the right eye but it looks a little more wet around the lid. He closes it after a minute as if it stings or something.

Today I sat with him a while and tried to put some contact lens drops in his eye to flush it. The breeder told me to try that. It wasn't a huge success but after a couple of near hits he opened and closed the eye and I saw some of my cleaner puddle in the corner. He began to open it more after that.

The reptisun 10 tube from petmountain is fine - just not the coil bulbs. I'd avoid the other brands though.
