my female Belle, is carrying infertile eggs I believe. So now I need to setup a lay box. I have a large rubbermaid tote, but I'm in a quandary about soil. I looked at home depot, but it seems everything has additives of one sort or another. Any suggestions.

Loving my Boogie and Tessie

« Reply #6 on: March 12, 2010, 01:13:28 AM »

Hey John, long time since we chatted.  My daughter moved in and I have been sooo busy but you will hear from me at the end of the month.  Tessie turns a year in May and I would love, if you can, make some notes on what you see and what to look for.  I would  like to be prepared.  I don't even know when they start to be able to produce infertile eggs.

Thanks

I use a mix of vermiculite, coconut bar, sand, and Jungle Mix by R Zilla. Make sure it's moist. I've also found that if you make a little cave she will lay her eggs in the cave. give her lots of water and food after wards.  A warm bath is great.

well Belle has been in & out of the lay box for 3 days. tonite she was in it when the lights went out, so she went to sleep. So I checked on her and low and behold there was an egg. I didn't want to disturb her to check for more right now. In the morning she'll get a bath , and her lay box will be checked

dang infertle eggs
