When you say 6 inches from the UV bulb, does that mean the animal is 6 inches from the bulb or the surface in which the animal can climb and rest on? If it's the surface, then that would mean the animal it's self would be 4 to 5 inches from the UV bulb!?!?
I started thinking about this and I have the surface 6 inches from the bulb. When Ryder is on that surface she is actually closer than 6 inches!?!? Is this too close?

Just an FYI, I am using a Reptisun 10 36 inch in a 40 gallon breeder. It goes across the entire length of her enclosure.

Mine UV (same as yours) is 12 inches away. It hang in the tank with no cover on the back side. If I am wrong someone lest us know.

Your dragon needs to be able to get within 6" to 8" from the bulb. I try to place the bulbs so that they're about 8" from the surface, that way I know the dragons can get close enough without being too close.

My UV bulb is the same height as his basking bulb. So whenever he is basking, which is a lot of the time, he is getting UV rays...

My basking is 8 inches away. So I need to drop my UV down to the same height. Right? My UV is not in a cover. It is just in a fixture. It lights up the whole tank and it is hanging from a chain so easy to lower. Does that make a difference from it being in a long dome? Also if it is too high could that cause an issue with eating?

Sue, if it's more than v8" away they're not getting enough usable UVB rays, and that will definitely affect appetite. With it being an open bulb you're also losing quite a bit of the rays. Fold some aluminum foil over the top of the bulb to reflect it back into the enclosure and you'll greatly increase the amount of rays they're getting.

Awesome I will do that! In Tessie's VIV it does have a cover over the whole thing except the bottom. So if I move it down to 6 to 8 inches, will that work? I am still finishing up on my clients Bookkeeping but I will post some pictures as soon as I can so you can give me your opinion.

That should work great Sue. I've had to hang the bulbs down into the enclosures many times. If you need some help to get it safely suspended, let me know and I'll dig up some pictures for you.
