Gave my Beardie silkworms several months ago, he showed little interest and I had a hard time feeding them off to him. I know my dragon is entyced by the color Green. I know there's Hornworms but those are only good as semi-staple or treats. I want to try silkies again but don't want to waste my money if he ain't going to be interested. So what about GREEN SILKIES. Would there be any issues with using Green food coloring on the silkies?

Oh BTW, I feed my dragon in a separate exo-terra bin that seems to be too small for him. Does the size of the feeding bin impact his appetite? or his willingness to eat?

Too big, and the dragon feels lost, too small, and they don't have easy maneuvering room.

ive never heard of "green silkies" are you talking about hornworms? if so, they can be offered more than other treat worms but they get expensive

yes.  Silks don't adapt well to moisture.  Food coloring contains preservatives.  So feeding your dragon well would be over ruled by the chance of bacteria (from moisture) and the introduction of preservatives in food items.

I guess it was worth a shot to ask. Thanks for the heads up on the preservatives. I'll probably offer hornworms as treats since they are expensive. I'm going to get a 50count of silkies from mulberryfarms and see how that goes. I gave him a nice treat of Supers over the weekend and he loved them (his husbandry was perfect and he passed them fine). Next on my list is to find a larger feeding bin.

The one that I've been eyeing is not too large and would still fit inside his enclosure, I'm pretty sure he'll adjust fine.

thanks everyone...no green silkies in Randall's future (unless there's a safe natural food coloring source  Wink  )
