I've been thinking about it, but well.... the only silkies I can get are around 2 inches long, and he's barely on 4 or 5 week crickets! I worry......

With soft bodies, you can fudge a bit on the length of a silk as a feeder... Just offer one... and watch... if he passes the poo easily, then you can offer a couple at a time, one meal out of the day.  Make sure he poos before offering more.
Increase slowly.
Pretty much just use common.. rather... Uncommon sense
