Hey guys, im getting my lizard tomorrow and am just making sure my tank is set up correctly. Im getting a 100 watt megaray sb and I have a 40 gallon breeder. It is 36''X18''X16''. I know the megaray should not be within twelve inches of my lizard at his highest point, but my question is: is it 12'' limit only around the space directly around his basking spot where the light is shining? Like can I have a log on the cool side of the tank that will allow him to break that 12'' threshold since the megaray wont be focused on that area?

yep, that's fine as long as the basking spot itself is no closer than 12 inches to the MVB.

there can and often are drastic changes in temperature with these bulbs the first 24-48 hours.  during this same time uv output spikes and normalizes.  due to these changes it is safest to burn the bulb in away from your animals.
