hello. i bought puff off of craigslist sunday. he has a 55 gallon tank with a mesh top, paper towel ground covering, two climbing branches(1small, 1 large), plastic stone decoration to climb on, fake plants, and a low water dish a heating pad, and a proper basking light. he is 1 1/2 years.
first question has to do with normal activity levels of this breed of dragon. he seem quite slow moving to me for most of the day. he just kinda hangs out in various places in his tank, on the branches mostly or he will walk around slowly. i take him out and let him loose on the carpet and he walks around the living room quicker than in the tank but not really fast. he sticks his tongue out testing(touching it to) the carpet, me, the window, ect. he is always very alert, and is always watching what we are doing. he was walking around today trying to get through the glass to get on the balcony. he just seems kinda slow to me but i really have nothing to go by. any advice would be greatly appreciated.
the other issue is his scales, not including is head, look very dull. his body is not brightly colored like i see in the books. his head and face are very brightly colored but not his body. the guy i bought him from said he was starting to shed and there is evidence of that, there are some scales getting ready to come off. i bathe him every other day and spray him everyday and he is dark when he is wet but when he dries he looks dull and dry almost like he is dusty. but again his head is not dull what so ever, but does have a couple of scales hanging. i'm very confused to what is normal.
he seems very happy, loves getting a bath, likes being picked up, likes being out of his tank. he is eating normal, calcium dusted crickets, greens, apples, ect. pooping normal. i have read and read about how to care for dragons, but my issues are not really addressed. also i have never seen him stand on his hind legs except once when he propped himself standing up in the corner of the cage and fell asleep. please let me know if this is normal. thank you in advance
