This may be a silly question, but can BD's be trained? I searched around, and found no mention of training, per se, though I did read somewhere that someone taught their beardie not to eat alfalfa substrate by tapping him on the head every time he tried to eat it.

I'm a dog trainer, and I've used a clicker to train other animals (birds, rats, chickens) so I'm wondering if I could also apply this to my BD? I figure that if I can teach a chicken to perform a chain of behaviors, perhaps I could teach a beardie to do something, as well (they've got to be smarter than chickens!) Not entirely sure what I could "train" her to do, but it could be a fun experiment!

Has anyone else tried to teach their BD anything?

I had an older dragon that would "sit" up in my hand.
Though now with two babies all I am doing is making sure they eat and wash behind their ears Wink

As for the one that tapped them for eating an unsanitary substrate ... that's not something I'd ever condone.

Nor would I, just saying that's all I could find about "training" them! I wouldn't do such things to my many doggies, so I wouldn't do it to my beardie, either.

Just for fun, I started working with her(?) with the clicker and some crickets. At the very least, it seems that s/he's much more excited when I approach, doing a little dance and scratching at the front of the cage, and has already "gotten" that when I put my hand in front of her, she's supposed to hop on. I don't know if it's because she's learned anything, or because she just enjoys a bit of a snuggle.

I'll see, I s'pose!

I hand feed our adults 1 super at a time in the afternoon.  They come running to me like puppies.
I'm not sure what other type of conditioning they will take to.
