We're thinking of getting a Leopard Gecko or two for the office and I have a question about the lights. Knowing they're nocturnal, they will have tank lights on during the day on a timer. The question is that when we leave, they're will be a security light across the room that is lit 24/7. Will this upset the critters day/night cycle? I would hope that they think it's like a bright, full moon.

Thanks, but it's a flourescent ceiling light. It would be a problem putting a red lens over it every day. Although, maybe I'll make like a red window shade that's right in front of the tank so we can pull it up or down when we're there.

that will work. geckos are nocturnal, so if you want them active when you are there, keep it unlit with bright lights, but you can use any red bulb. I actually use a Christmas (snowflake design) bulb for mine. They changed over to our day and night as their night and day ! Cute buggers too, my female is getting so fat and sassy on roaches ! She keeps tossing the male out of the hide , lol. Bossy women ! Janie.

Lol exactly Wanna hear something if a mom went in the forest and encountered a grizzly who would win the mom or a grizzly? I know for a fact the mom would because woman can stay mad for 4 or 5 days on end and grizzlies can't

So we have a black light on 24/7 for heat. What should the air and floor temps be directly under the light?

Mine are at an air temp of around 80*f during the day, 65* at night, we installed a 10 gal uth under the 40 breeder, where their foam hide is above, so they aren't all that close to it . Other than that, same as for a bearded, however, I do feed them in their tank, as Dora will munch more (typical female,, Ha Gary !) than Petey does. Interestingly enough, just 2 months ago, Dora couldn't get much as Petey hogged all the food. ( Ha again !) You can use a CHE instead, if you want to reduce the chance of heat injuries, just have to make sure that the water is always full to reduce chance of dehydration. Janie.

Well, leos use belly heat more so than light heat. A heat pad is easiest and best for their digestion. You want the floor on the heat side to be around 90-95 F.
