I was going to say something similar, if the joints have been like this for over a year it is most likely not going to kill him in the next week or two. That being said I have a feeling he is going to need a healthy dose of calcium shots and probally some antibiotics. Did you receive a UVB light with him? How long until you will have a bit of $ to visit a vet or is it that there just are no vets nearby?
