hello, my beardie is about three months old and he has been gaping a  lot in the last few days. his set up in the 20 long tank has been the same since i got him. i know they do this to thermoregulate. it seems to me that he just doing it because he figured out he can do it lol. what does everyone think??

From my experience: My dragons only do this while basking.  I don't think they'd ever "do it just to do it"..

Perhaps though, you should check the temp of his basking spot with a temp gun to make sure it's not too hot.

yeh he is under his basking spot when he does it i have just never seen him do this before lol

Gaping is perfectly normal while basking, it is like a dog panting. It is done to regulate the beardies temperature.

I agree with the basking, but I have also heard of leos (yea I know, not the same thing), gaping when they have health problems. Probably just a leo thing though.

yes gapping is normal while basking... leos is another matter...  Undecided
