Cage Decor....

I have an adult beardie in a 18x36x24 inch terrarium. I have a large branch that extends to the top of the cage, a few vines, a large cave, and reptile carpet on the bottom(soon to be replaced with tile). The cage has 6 air vents on the back and 2 on each side. I've been looking for something to decorate the back of his cage with, something better than that scenery stuff you tape on. Any suggestions?

You can buy a rock terrarium background that looks really good but unless you caulk all around the edges it's really easy for crickets to get behind it and hide and since ya don't wanna leave crickets in the cage I personally don't recommend buying those. I regretted getting the one for my cage. you can also use styrofoam and grout to make your own, there's alot of topics here that tell you how to do that, and you can get some really cool ideas from looking in the photo area here. People in these forums have some pretty nice looking backgrounds they made from scratch. I would personally go with that idea as you can stick smaller peices on in just random spots to give it a cooler look and will make it so crickets can't hide behind it. plus it's cheaper than buying the rock terrarium background and alot more customizable. Or there is always the option to paint it depending what your cage is made of...

I don't plan on feeding crickets, so I shouldn't have that problem. I'm not all that sure that I am patient enough to creat something myself. I am looking for something that I can buy. Do you guys have beardie vendors that make stuff especially for beardies and thier cages?

This is a pic of his cage right now. Don't mind the mess, he choose today to poop and throw his greens everywhere and I still need to get it cleaned out.

If your not worried about getting the crickets behind it, you should check out the rock backgrounds. For some reason the pet stores don't really seem to carry them to often, or at least the ones where I live but you can order them online. They're called exo terra rock backgrounds and come in quite a few sizes. Is worth looking into.

Would I need to worry about the air vents on the back being covered up by them? I still have 2 vents on each side and I have supplies on the wire to make wire top, right now the top is plywood with a small screen vent.

I'd just set em' in there for now with like velcro or something and just keep checking the temps and watching for changes in yer dragon's behavior to make sure yer getting enough air flow, worst case scenario you may need to cut it out around one or two of the back vents, but honestly I doubt you'll need to.

just an FYI, my dragons LOVE the terro background I got them, now I'm just hoping they won't be to mad at me when my new cage finishes drying and i move em into that...which don't have the background and I don't plan on putting it in the new cage.

Lynsie, this is something easy I did for one of my dragons, and am looking for a second to do again.
I took an old (found at a yard sale $5.) table top/reptile waterfall, and got my metal pot scrubber and roughed it up.  Than I took some play sand and some Mod Podge and mixed it togeather, and then spread over the whole thing.  Let it dry, and using MP again, apply like 10 thin coats using a spray bottle.  This gives texture, color and a great place to bask !
