I was wondering if there is anyone here who uses crushed walnut as a substrate. From what i have read that it is the best particle substrate. i would really love to use a loose substrate, but i have been reading conflicting view points on this subject. I am getting a baby beardy soon and i am planning on making a wooden enclosure with tile when it outgrows a 20 gal long aquarium. So if anyone has any real world advice on crushed walnut or a better loose substrate plz give your thoughts,, Thanks Smiley

I found myself the same way I am soooo new to here BUT I had the viv all set up I thought I was all ready to go and I read the substrate section I was with a mini dust pan and vacuum getting rid of the calcy sand. And then I went with this little bio echo friendly seed thing and it was great it broke down to a powder form BUT when I misted the back of the cage and the heat it started to grow and I really didn't like it and then what 99% of everyone here uses Tile a good tile and some aquarium non toxic sealant. ( BIG NOTE ON THAT STUFF IF YOUR going to use it although being safe and non toxic it has a HORRIBLE smell and takes 24 hrs to dry now a hair dryer and fans help make sure your dragon has a home while it drys and airs out and also DO it in a room that has a window to keep the room aired out as well.) But I got a nice semi gritty tile to help him not slip and slide also helps keep there nails trim naturally. its great.

Thanks to everyone here with suggestions and positive comments.

NEVER USE CRUSHED WALNUTS AS A SUBSTRATE !!!  ALL LOOSE PARTICLE SUBSRTATES ARE ALL POTENTIALLY DEADLY TO YOUR ANIMAL !!!  USE PAPER TOWEL / NEWSPAPER / OR  TILE !!!

Even the sand they tell you is "DIGESTIBLE" is deadly so do the safe thing and use tile or paper.  Its cleaner, cheaper, and better for your little friend---

My apologies, I didn't think that was so inappropriate. There were no bad words.  I'm sorry, I will keep the jokes more G rated,  it will not happen again.
