OK so don't judge like most people but I dropped out of my veterenary school... I wanted to be an exotics vet dealing mostly with reptiles and amphiibians... They're the only animal that excites me, i mean come on... reptiles are the oldest animals known to man the flintstones even had dino. all that aside though, I was informed by the school that to become official certified to work soley on herps, that i would have to finish out my veternary course then travel to a vet office specializing in herps and spend 6 months there and then come back to texas to take a test.. My goal was to be certified in it but I dont have the money just to leave texas to assist in a herp vet. Does anyone know of another way to obtain studies without having to travel? I mean the basics I have, fecals/routine (including all symptoms and some medication) I know how to administer them with one of my patients being zeus him-self... Hes still not healthy but 100% positive to near death when i got him, I could physicaly bend his jaws and had a crooked spine. But does anyone know of a seperate program in texas?

I know some universities have online courses but I don't think that will help you.  Is there any sort of grant or financial aid that you can apply for?

if you have to finish vet school to specialize in exotics.....then why not continue the school path you're on now, finish that, stabilize, then proceed into the specialty?  There are sponsorships for that.  Grants dicated especially for that, but you don't have access until you've completed the first portion of the education.

I agree with LK. Finish school as just a regular vet. Get a job with stable income and then go back for herp. I know standard veterinary isnt you preferred route, but at least you'll have some good income to build toward what you really want  Smiley

Try finding grants or sponsorships that provide for the course and for travel during internship. Student loans are available as well. If you want it bad enough you will find a way.

Don't count the zoo out until you apply. If you really acted enthusiastic, they may hire you as an intern, or you can try volunteering. How old are you? Join the National Guard and let them pay. You can have anything you want if you want it bad enough.
