I placed an order for a mixed colony of feeder roaches. They were supposed to be turks, but I'm pretty sure they aren't - the vast majority of them are black and rounded. They're FAST, they don't climb, and, from what I can tell, can't fly. There aren't any eggs, but there are a variety of sizes of babies and juveniles, including some extremely tiny ones. There are, however, bright green adults, about an inch long, that do have wings (but have no attempted to fly.) Any idea what I have, and if they're safe to feed to my beardies?

They do kind of look like turks (to me, anyway, but I'm new to the whole roach thing.) It's really the big green ones that are throwing me off. They're quick little buggers, and I had a hard time getting a picture of them, but you can see one of the green ones in the background: The black/brown ones range in size from maybe an eighth of an inch to 3/4ths of an inch; the green ones are probably closer to 7/8ths to one inch, with wings. One did flutter, but only very briefly while trying to get away from the camera flash, and it didn't get very high or far.

There are about 25 (out of 150-200) that are green like that. Oh well. Think it's okay to feed 'em anyway? I looked around the internet and couldn't find anything about particular species that shoudn't be fed, but I also didn't find any roaches that looked like those, either.

Okay, scratch that. I just googled "green cockroach" and found pictures of what I have: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/79/Green-leaf_Cockroach2.jpgGreen banana or Cuban cockroaches...? Everything I could find about them says that the nymphs are dark brown or black, and the adults are a light neon green, which describes what I have exactly. So, I guess my question now is...any idea what to do with these things? They're a tropical species, they can aparently fly and climb, are attracted to light, and I couldn't find anything about them as far as being feeder roaches, although aparently some folks keep them as "pets."

Just checked with Aaron Pauling. You can feed bananna roaches as well.

Ugh. At least I can use 'em! I contacted the company I ordered them from. They asked that I send them a picture, so I did, and they agreed that those roaches were indeed NOT turks. They're only sending me a partial refund because I didn't contact them as soon as the roaches arrived, but I don't have to ship them back, either. Thanks, guys!
